 Latitude Festival
Jenny’s Compact Camera
I vaguely recall this photo being taken, through the mist of euphoria. I think it was just before Regina Spektor began her set, and I felt as if I was in heaven. Pills for Regina Spektor was the best idea we ever had. This also means my reservations about Jolly dissappeared instantly, clearly. He’s lovely at heart, he can’t help how irritating he is sometimes. Anyway, as time floats past I am finding myself becoming more fond of him. I’m not sure the singing for three hours solidly on ket helped, though.

Belinda’s House
Ria’s Compact Camera
I miss Markus these days. He was one of those constants in my school life who always seemed bright and ready to annoy all, intentionally and inadvertantly with his unrivalled intelligence and maths skills. I miss his funny german accent and the way he overdramatised insignificant things. Mostly I miss the way no one could hate Markus, and there were not awkward social expectations about how to act around him like some people at school. Sixth form isn’t the same without him. I remember he never used to drink at parties like this one and he usually sat in the corner being quieter than the others, but he always came anyway, because otherwise he’d be stuck up in ashford with nothing to do. I’m looking forward to when he comes back to visit.

Old house next door

This was Mushy when she was only a little kitty, intruiged by the great unknown of Dad’s study, no Whitecat to taunt her and fill her world with bitter resentment and angst. I love her so much, even though she’s a fatty kitty now.

That day in the summer where me and Jenny came to my house and laughed, smoked and I learned how to use the manual focus on my camera. This picture depicts Jenny particularly well.

Just off the Language Corridor at School outside LA10
Probably Mel/Hatti’s camera
This was when we threw a surprise party for Fran in year 10. Someone brought in cake and balloons, party hats (or crowns..) and lots of other sweets and she was absolutely thrilled. I feel like this picture symbolizes how Fran and I have spent almost every day fairly close in each other’s company for the last 7 years. She’s the oldest close friend I have from my time in England and we’ve developed together through half of primary and all of secondary school. We were talking the other day about how when we’re at university she won’t have my constant annoying, infantile whining everyday. This picture reminds me about how our school jumpers were always both covered in paint, nowadays it’s only Fran who comes home with paint stains. She means a hell of lot to me and I know I take her for granted, I realise that when we see each other after a long time apart.

Gran’s Compact Camera
I always think it’s funny how relaxed I look and Danny’s just standing bolt upright in an seemingly forced position, but that’s just what he’s like. I have a lot in common with my brother but I think our environments and the people we surround ourselves by have helped form a lot of our differences. Apart from Ben, of course.

Auffach, Austria
My Disposable Camera
This fucking massive hill was what we had to walk up and down at least twice a day when travelling to and from our hotel whilst on the sixth form ski trip. Ria, Lydia and I (I think) were coming back late after skiing because we’d gone up the ski lift the wrong way, up not down, when Ria slipped and fell flat on her arse in the snow, and I just had to take a picture of her crumpled and defeated.

Italian Restaurant
Canon 350D
This was when we went on a budget trip to Rome for a few days and stayed in the grottiest hotel in the world. Our living space consisted of a small dingey room with three beds (horrible bedcovers) and a tiny bathroom. The complimentary breakfast included with the deal turned out to be a dry croissant and small cup of instant coffee from the shop down the road. What we gained from this, though, was a significant amount of time anywhere but our room and made the most of our visit. I love this picture of my mum (and not because you can’t see half her face) because she usually pulls the traditional photo smile in pictures, which isn’t all that flattering to anyone really. It’s such a cute picture of her.
